Perfect Guide to Soak in the Prague Vibes!

Prague is the capital and the largest city in Czech Republic. It is a perfect place to relax, explore, and get a feel of the history of Europe. If you are an art lover, historical buff, nature lover, foodie or a complete party animal; there is a bit of everything in this city to offer. To fully enjoy the city, I would suggest you to keep atleast 4 days in hand. However, if you only want to stick to the touristy areas – 2 days are also enough.

The Magical City of Prague!

Where To Stay?

Prague is mainly divided into 10 areas. And I would suggest you to choose your stay in Prague 1.

How To Explore?

This factor totally depends on where you are staying. If you choose to stay in Prague 1 – Old Town Area then everything will be pretty much in walkable distance from where you stay. And this is highly advisable if you are there on a quick short trip. However if you are staying in other areas, then trams and metros are the best option to travel across the city. However, once you are at Old Town, I would highly advise you to walk around and soak the vibes of the city.

What To Eat?

Prague has a very traditional meat-and-potatoes cuisine, with dishes heavy on gravies and root vegetables. Goulash or Guláš is a pork stew with lots of onions, usually served with bread dumplings or slices of dark bread. The vegetarian alternative is made of potatoes or mushroom, I tried this one and it was super yum.
Trdelník or Chimney Cakes are a famous dessert and you can find these at stands across the city.
Also for all the beer lovers – Czech Beers are one of the cheapest and the best beers in the world.

Things to Remember

Almost all hotels and hostels have a free walking tour of the city. They usually inform you of the same once you checkin, but if they dont, feel free to enquire.
The official currency of Prague is Czech koruna or Czech crown (Kč / CZK) so make sure to exchange your currency accordingly. However, few of the places do accept Euros but it is better to do the exchange in advance.

Places To Explore?

Prague Castle

Prague Castle is one of the most beautiful places to explore. The castle is in castle district often known as Hradčany. It consists of various landmarks like – St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, The Story of Prague Castle Exhibition, St. George’s Basilica, Golden Lane with Daliborka Tower, the Powder Tower and Rosenberg Palace. You can buy a ticket to any or all of these sights from the ticket office. St. Vitus Cathedral is one of the most famous landmarks of these all. Exploring everything can take almost half a day to full day.

Timing – 6 am to 10 pm (Castle Complex) and 9 am to 5 pm (Historical Buildings)
Entrance Fees – CZK 350 (check site for detailed information on different variations.)

Vltava River

While walking back towards Charles Bridge from Castle district, you will come across the Vltava River. Here you can find beautiful view of the Charles Bridge along with some swans swimming across the river. People usually also feed these swans and they are super friendly. Also you can take a cruise across this river if you like.

Charles Bridge

By the time you explore these things, it would be almost evening and the best time to stroll across the Charles bridge and enjoy the sunset. Charles bridge is so lively at this time. You can get a sketch of yourself done as a souvenir from one of the artists like me and my friend did. Also there are various musicians performing at the bridge which adds to the lively vibes. Charles bridge is one of the oldest and most famous bridges in Europe. Just take your time to stroll across and enjoy the vibes here.

Pub Crawl

Ok so if you are in Prague just for two days, then it is a must that you enjoy the classic pub crawl. As much as Prague is famous for it’s history, it is famous for it’s nightlife as well. Prague is a whole new vibe at night. If you are a huge party person, nightowl or not; I still suggest you check it out. Prague has Karlovy Lazne – Central Europe’s biggest club with 5 bars and 5 dance floors spread out over 5 stories. It’s entry ticket costs approximately 250 CZK to 300 CZK. However if you want to check out other clubs as well, I would suggest you to buy a pub crawl ticket and do the bar hopping. And if you are one of those hardcore party persons who pulls out an all-nighter well, then I would suggest you to head towards Charles Bridge to catch the sunrise once you are done partying.

Timing – 9 pm to 5 am (Yes the party scenes at Prague continue the whole night!!)
Entrance Fees – CZK 600 (Click here to book online. For offline booking – Celetná 12, Prague 1 – 25 meters from Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock. Open 09:00 – 22:00 every day.)

Old Town Square

Although you pass through this square a lot the previous day, I would suggest you to properly explore it the next day. This is the main square with major attractions of the city. The famous Astronomical Clock, Our Lady of Týn Church and St. Nicholas Church being the major attractions here. Also it’s the best place to grab a quick breakfast or also have a Trdelník from Trdlo while strolling across this square. Also if you are in Prague during Christmas time, then this is the square where all the Christmas markets are. Some of the major attractions of this square is the hourly show of the 12 Apostles in Astronomical Clock. Also the special traditional concerts happening at Týn and St. Nicholas Church are amazing experiences to attend.

Head of Franz Kafka

Till now all you have been exploring would be mostly having old world charm, so it’s time to move towards the modern areas in Prague. The moving art of Franz Kafka’s head is one of the finest examples of modern art. It is a cool, futuristic, silver sculpture depicting writer Kafka as his head turns.

The Dancing House

The Dancing House is also called Fred and Ginger and is another famous landmark of modern Prague. People try all kinds of creative photographs near this landmark. It is a unique structure and not to be missed while in Prague.

Petřín Tower

Many people call Prague as – “Paris of the East”. But did you know? Prague has it’s own mini Eiffel Tower replica in the form of Petřín Tower. It is an observation tower as well as a transmission tower. It is one of the major tourist attractions of Prague. Although it is not as tall as Eiffel Tower but hey it is charming and worth the visit. You can also go up the tower for beautiful view.

Timing – 10 am to 10 pm
Entrance Fees – CZK 150

John Lennon Wall

Since the 1980’s this wall has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti, lyrics from Beatles songs, and designs relating to local and global causes. It is a really colorful wall and super photogenic.

So this is the most you can accomodate in your two days itinerary in Prague. However if you are there for few more days, some of the other places worth checking out are – Letna Park, Jewish Quarters, Vyšehrad, Beer Musuem, Chocolate musuem and just get lost along the cute cobblestone streets of the city.

Hope you have a good time in Prague using my tips, if you got any other questions – feel free to ask me in the comments below or hit me up in any of my social media channels. Happy Exploring! 🙂
